The Selenium IDE is a great plugin for the Firefox Browser to automate website testing. Unfortunately it is not available for Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera or Safari. Nevertheless it is not enough to test a web application on firefox. Every browser and every device has its own “specialties” of which you must be aware and therefore every web application should at least be testes on the most popular browsers and devices/operation systems which are (besides the Mozilla Firefox Browser):

  • Chrome on Desktop PC
  • Android on Smartphone / Tablet
  • Internet Explorer on Desktop PC
  • Safari on Mac / Iphone / IPad (soon to come)
  • Opera on Desktop (soon to come)

We suggest you to try FRET for your automated website testing. It can do exactly that and test your web application on all the mentioned environments and browsers (some of them will be added in the upcoming months). FRET uses the same syntax and commands as the Selenium IDE and therefor it will be pretty easy for you to use FRET if you have been working with the Selenium IDE before.

Where can I download the plugin as an alternative to the Selenium IDE?

Nowhere – because you don’t need to download or install any add on or extension to use FRET. FRET works out of the box in a web interface. Just log in to FRET and define your test cases online. After you have done that you can either manually or automatically run the test cases in defined intervals may be daily, weekly or monthly in the device lab of FRET. Just try it – you don’t need hardware, software or any programming skills. Just like in the Selenium IDE you define the test cases by click.
